Reporting Safeguarding Concerns

The Equals Trust has produced a supplement to its child protection policy to cover the period of school closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic. (This document will be available on each school's website.)

The supplement to the child protection policy explains how schools are working to keep children (both those in school and those at home) safe during this period and what adjustments to their normal procedures and policies are necessary.

Parents should be aware that schools, local authorities and the police are all still working to keep children safe during this period and that any concerns they have should still be shared. 

Provisions for online safety and online learning are covered in the policy.

Parents and carers who have any safeguarding concerns should still contact their childrens' school.

Each school's existing child protection policy identifies members of staff with responsibilities for safeguarding - with their contact details.

In addition, each policy also includes details of local authority safeguarding provision and details of other helplines (reproduced below). 

Helplines and Reporting

  • Search for 'child protection policy' on your own school's website to find details of staff with responsibilities for safeguarding.

  • Children can talk to a ChildLine counsellor 24 hours a day about anything that is worrying them by ringing 0800 11 11 or in an online chat at https://www.childline.org.uk/get-support/1-2-1-counsellorchat/
  • If parents or carers are concerned that their child is being contacted by adults as a result of having sharing sexual imagery they should report to NCA-CEOP at https://www.ceop.police.uk/safety-centre/
  • ChildLine and the Internet Watch Foundation have partnered to help children get sexual or naked images removed from the internet. A young person can get their photo removed by talking to a ChildLine counsellor.   • Where staff members feel unable to raise an issue with their employer, or feel they have a genuine concern that is not being addressed we acknowledge they may wish to consider whistleblowing channels. Likewise, if parents and carers are concerned about their child, they can contact the NSPCC Helpline by ringing 0800 028 028 0295, or by emailing help@nspcc.org.uk
